Thoughts from Adam Briggs from today's match day programme

This week we welcome Roundhegians to Mallorie Park, who this season are celebrating their 90th anniversary and we offer them our congratulations for achieving that milestone. They, like ourselves, have not enjoyed the best of starts to the season and currently occupy the bottom slot of the league table. We were there ourselves a few weeks ago but after two good wins and two bonus points from a tough encounter at North Ribblesdale we have progressed. All credited to the players and coaches who have persevered and helped us moved on and we hope this continues.

Obviously, after today’s game we hope Roundhegians season picks up and we are all frequently reminded of just how competitive Yorkshire 2 is, there are no easy games.

Our congratulations also go to First Team Skipper Iain Barker and his lovely new wife Jade. Many of us genuinely believed that getting married during the rugby season was against the law and sources close to Barks report that he is hiding from the rugby authorities in a safe house in Dubai! Hanging Judge Briggs has asked for an internal enquiry that will probably report to the players dinner in May! Seriously though, we wish the happy couple well and hope they enjoy their honeymoon in the sun.

England will have a challenging start to the Autumn Internationals today with South Africa looking to kick on from a good summer of rebuilding. In the news England have recalled Will Carling, no not to play at 52, as a leadership coach. Whether old ‘bum face,’ can help inspire we will see, Jones said “Because I am not English, I can’t preach to the players about having pride in England.” This is a curious move and as usual with Jones will be a masterstroke or maybe not?

I hope everyone enjoys today’s game, your support is appreciated.
