The latest blog from Adam Briggs in today's matchday programme

This week the Mallorie Park family were saddened to learn of the death of former player Gavin Makewell. There will be a minute’s silence today before kick-off out of respect to him and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. He was one of our own and we will remember him.

After another week of endless political Punch and Judy in Westminster, I was reminded of the Clash hit ‘should I stay or should I go,’ which was at least entertaining! A return to rugby is a welcome distraction, whatever your point of view.

This week we welcome table topping Goole to Ripon. They are enjoying an excellent season, although they were defeated last week at home by Yarnbury. They will be looking to bounce back this week.

We have seen an improvement in our performance and results recently. A narrow defeat away to Wath upon Dearne last week should not detract from our push to move up the table. I know that the lads will be up for the game today!

There will be a few rough looking sportsmen knocking round the Club today. Gareth Chilcott rolled into town to entertain us at last night’s Sportsman’s Dinner. The last time we met him was at Twickenham, when a very young age grade team including Euan Findlay and Tom Newby reached a national final and he handed out the prizes (they had no idea who he was then either).

I hope you all enjoy the game today and many thanks to our sponsor I’Ansons, your kind support is greatly appreciated.
