It’s with great sadness that we have to announce the sudden death of one of our volunteers and club members, Jim Saynor

Jim died suddenly on Thursday 29th March at the age of 45. This has left his family, friends and all who knew him in great shock.

The club passes on our heartfelt condolences to his new wife Michaela and his teenage sons, Toby and Freddie.

Jim was an experienced and passionate rugby player and supporter. He joined Ripon Rugby Club a few years ago and made some really good friends at the club. His son Toby plays for the U16s, and earlier on in the season while on tour, the team enjoyed Jim being in charge of the kitty and often queueing at the bar to keep everyone well-watered. He was very proud of his son’s achievements at Ripon and we hope that Toby continues to further his rugby with the club.

Jim also had a strong connection with Harrogate RUFC and Harrogate Pythons, and was also captain of the Harrogate Vets in recent years, so had many friends across the two club. The 2nd XV game played on Saturday was Harrogate Pythons vs Ripon which was very poignant and played in his memory.

Jim was a man who always volunteered and supported the club because of his love of the game. He certainly knew his rugby and had a lot of playing experience, and as people who knew him will remember, conversations with him about rugby were always enjoyable as well as educational.

He will be sadly missed.

Update: Jim's funeral will be held on 25th April at 12pm, at Christ Church on the Stray in Harrogate.
