On Sunday the newly formed Ripon Womens team headed to Barnsley to a tournament to play their first matches.

Newly formed in January of this year the Ripon RUFC 'Bluebelles' women's rugby team had their first ever trip out this Sunday. Attending a development day at Barnsley, some didn't know what to expect having not even picked up a rugby ball before this year.

They approached the day with determination and style, learning along the way and showing a massive amount of promise for next season. Playing against more experienced and well drilled teams they certainly held their own, giving 100% effort all the way through the 4 shorter games. Tries were scored by Dionne Beeby, Dot Frankland and Charlotte Thompson playing 10 a side with a squad of 14, everyone played their part.

The women's team train every Monday from 7pm at Ripon RUFC, alongside the girls section. They are holding an #Innerwarrior event on Monday May 15th from 18.30 til 20.30, in conjunction with the RFU, for all ages of girls (11+) and women for anyone who would like to give rugby a try. Please contact Jay Chester-Bristow via our website riponrugby.org (jay.chester-bristow@riponrugby.org) and she will happily let you have all the information about the event and the women and girls section. Come and join this friendly Rugby Club and give rugby a try!
