Ripon Under 8s Newcastle Tour 2019
By Jim Robinson
Our first tour, definitely not our last!!!!
What a great experience!
So the under 8’s have just completed our first official rugby tour, and its fair to say it was a great experience for all involved. Check out the photos for yourself.
We started with a relaxed Saturday afternoon in Newcastle, with a few hours of Ten Pin bowling, some Ryder cup style mini golf, retro arcade (including space invaders) and a the obligatory pizza and chips, then off to the hotel for the necessary beverage or 3 (strictly for the mums and dads of course).
A full English on a Sunday morning, and you can conquer the world………..well a festival of rugby certainly.
Enough super girls and boys (and coaches) for 2 full teams with subs, all raring to go for a full Sunday of play against teams from across the North East and further afield. Kitted out in our special superhero jerseys, the play was energetic, committed and downright fantastic. Each player without exception performed admirably, summoning their inner hero to wow those in attendance. My fellow coaches and I received numerous worlds of praise from opposition players, coached and parents – a great testament to the children’s abilities.
So the ultimate question………How do you crown a weekend of rugby and fun with your teammates and friends? It is difficult, but we did it! A quick change into our full Ripon RUFC kit, and then the small matter of being the guard of honour for the Newcastle Falcons v Worcester Warriors game! That just so happens to be shown live on BT Sport! That’s right the Ripon RUFC under 8s team are famous.
A dash off the pitch to take our place in the south stand to watch the game, a much needed Newcastle win, and the weekend is complete.
A fun packed weekend with memories to last a lifetime.
Thank you to the parents, fellow coaches and our manager for helping over the weekend. It’s time to start planning for next year!
The final word should go to the Children, they were all fantastic, had lots of fun, played outstanding rugby and made us coaches and parents proud as punch. Well done guys.
