Bluebelles struggle against North East Div 2 leaders

The Bluebelles travelled over to York with the weather against them. After the warm up York started strongly, scoring within the first 5 minutes of the game. This unfortunately set the tone for the whole match with the Bluebelles unable to replicate the form from last weeks fixture. York continued to test the Bluebelles, using their experience against them. That being said, the Bluebelles never gave up, they continued to work hard, chasing York down, York however were able to stay one step ahead.

The team showed their unstoppable spirit, determined to keep each other going. Every attack seemed to break down even though the women knew they could do it, it just didn't quite work out for them. And still, they never gave up. With new players in the scrum it took a while for the forwards to settle into the new pack but by the end of the match they had found their rhythm and clicked together.

The tackling was hard and relentless, Caryl-Ann Davies as flanker, hitting the opposition at every opportunity. Dot Frankland doing her usual job as the last line of defence with tenacity and determination. New comer Lauryn Corbett showing her worth as an addition to the team, coming through from the backs to bring the York players down. With a couple of injuries the Bluebelles were left on the back foot, with forwards playing out of position, the York side were able to run round them. But still, they never gave up.

The match against York women was hard fought and lost on a miserable day and even though they were defeated the Bluebelles came away from the match with smiles on their faces and a sense of achievement. To play against the leaders of the North East Div 2 as a development side is something to be proud of.

York named Dot Frankland as player of the match, The Bluebelles coaches chose Liz Clark as forward and Donna Chilcott and back of the match. The Bluebelles would also like to welcome their other new player Victoria Daly to the Ripon Rugby family. Very well done ladies.
