An eagerly awaited first outing this season for Ripon U11s, brought about a bruising encounter against two well skilled Wetherby teams in the Sunday sunshine at Mallorie Park. With 27 of Ripon's squad of 34 players raring to go after 5 weeks of intensive training, they were well matched against the Wetherby teams, in four very even games. The overall standard of rugby was excellent and played at times to an intensity to make coaches and parents wince, as strong running brought about crunching tackles and fierce rucking.
Final scores were:
Ripon Blues 2 - 1 Wetherby A - x2 tries from Charlie Lock
Ripon Whites 1 - 1 Wetherby B - Try from Max Sowray
Ripon Blues 1 - 3 Wetherby B - Try from Sebastian Clay
Ripon Whites 3 - 3 Wetherby A - Tries from Charlie Borchard, Harry Drane and Cameron Lang-Burns.
Well done to all players who contributed to four highly entertaining encounters. We will build on this performance when we take on a return fixture next weekend at Wetherby, in the North Yorkshire Festiva
