Two pretty evenly matched sides made for a close and entertaining fixture.
Our first visit to Harrogate's new ground and we were on the impressive first team pitch.
The home team were first to score going 7-0 up after a couple of missed tackles allowing a well taken break away try.
Ripon soon hit back with a try from Ted Wainwright, converted by Oliver Williams (7-7).
An impressive back line move from Ripon and a great running line by Ollie put Ripon in front, converting his own try. (7-14)
Harrogate responded with another but importantly the conversion was missed. (12-14).
Ted ended the half with his second of the game, and Ollie kept his 100% kicking record (12-21).
The second half saw Bob McKee touch down in the corner to increase Ripon's lead and a top class conversion from the touchline by Ollie made it 12-28.
The remainder of the second half was well contested and with 3 minutes to go, a Ripon mistake allowed Harrogate a lifeline (19-28).
Then straight from the restart Harrogate ran in another (24-28).
It was too late though and Ripon hung on for the final whistle.
Lifting in the line outs for the first time went well.
A great debut at hooker by our new player Sam Acheson and a very warm welcome back to the team after a few years away to Connor Eddleston, who was very active in the loose.
