Doncaster away in the National Cup and a huge step up both in the quality of the opposition and the performance of the Colts. The 43-7 scoreline suggests Ripon where badly beaten, nothing could be further from the truth. Ripon started well and took an early lead with Sam Pillar scoring and converting. Donny upped the pace but Ripon matched them in every way. Every player stepped up to the line, no missed tackles, rucking over and winning loads of turnovers while defending for long periods.
Donny broke the line twice to go into halftime with a 10-7 lead. The restart brought more of the same Ripon defending well but in attack Doncaster were hard to breakdown. By the middle of the half the hard work was starting to tell, the Ripon players started to struggle with the opposition and Donnys kicking to the corners brought them their points. Without doubt the best performance from the team to date and as coach Jacob said The first half of this game is now the benchmark we need to play up to.
