Ripon Under 9s rugby team were soaring high with the Newcastle Falcons as they competed at the Falcons Junior Rugby Festival on Sunday 1st February, against teams from across Northumberland, Co.Durham, Teeside and Cumbria.
Playing on the main Kingston Park all weather pitch, Ripon fielded a team of 7 players - Josiah Baker, Finlay Vigurs Pearson, Alex Taylor, Harry Drane, Charlie Lock, Mathew Ayre and Charlie Burrows. The team won all four of its games beating West Hartlepool, Northern, Whitley Bay Rockcliffe and Westoe respectibly, thereby winning their league. Overall they conceeded only 3 tries whilst scoring an amazing 29.
Coach Richard Baker said, " The boys were absolutely fantastic today. Our defence was overpowering for our opposition, constantly driving other teams backwards and our attacking play was simply superior to other teams, with great off-loading in the tackle to keep the ball alive. I am very proud of the boys for the way they represented Ripon and how they demonstrated the strength of rugby here in North Yorkshire against teams that we would not normally play."
The boys ended the day by meeting Falcons players, participating in a pitch parade with another 200 players and then watching the main Falcons team beat Sale Sharks in the LV Cup. It really was a day to fly high for Ripon Junior Rugby Club!
