What a start to the 2017-18 season for Ripon U13's with a win by 7 tries to 5!
Four quarters of play against a very strong West Park team, that initially dominated at the breakdown by winning a lot of ball from Ripon. Although Ripon played with some success, using strong direct lines in the forwards supported by open running rugby from the backs, they were let down ultimately by lack of commitment to win the loose ball and at the breakdowns. Certainly an area for more work in training.
But in the fourth quarter Ripon prevented West Part stealing easy ball by working hard on the ground and this immediately payed dividends. With total dominance in possession, Ripon were then able to link to the three quarters and with slick handling ran in some wonderful tries.
A large squad of players gelled together, in various combinations, to secure a wonderful win that will boost the confidence of the team going forwards.
This week Ripon travel to Roundhegians for their first ever Yorkshire Cup fixutre - good luck!
