In the very muddy conditions on Sunday, the U13's dug deep and never let their heads go down against a very strong York squad. Ultimately the Ripon cup dream came to an end, but the spirit of the whole squad, together with their supporters, was clear to see and a credit to all.
There were some stand out performances, but every player showed that they deserved their place in the squad. There was very little left in their tanks at the end of the game. The scoreline did not do justice to the effort of the Ripon team and they came close to the York try-line on several occasions, only to be denied by a strong York defence or handling error in the slippery conditions.
All credit to York, who used their power and skill to win turnover ball several times and to capitalise with pace in attack. Our clubs always have strong and competitive matches, but always played fairly and with a great atmosphere. We wish York the best of luck in the semi-finals.
Thanks also to our referee Dan Watson, who did a great job as always!
We will be back for the Cup next year!
