Malton away for the under 15’s this week. After going behind to an early Malton try Ripon fought back quickly and where unlucky when Jake Robinson was clean through only to be deemed offside. It fell to Ric Castle-Ward to score Ripon’s first when he intercepted a Malton pass and ran it in from just inside the Malton half, Charlie Britton converted to level the scores.
Enjoying plenty of possession Ripon were soon rewarded with a second, Oly Bowett scoring after a good sequence of phased play. The game was played over three periods and during the second Ripon were hardly out of the opposition half, Rob Heaton went over, only for the try to be denied, Ref saying the ball was held up (he swears it was grounded). Malton’s defence then held out three times to deny James Gatford, Sam Headford, and Callam Anderson, all held up on the try line, also going close was James Willis who was unlucky to knock-on going over the line.
As always happens when chances are missed the opposition broke away to score after somehow coming up with the ball at the Ripon side of a ruck to level the score at 12-12. Ripon continued to dominate and took the lead again, Owain Gillam managed to hold on and touch down despite being tip-tackled on the line, Charlie Hynes put the conversion over to put them 12-19 up. Ripon continued to press, Jamie McGoohan going over at the whistle only to be pulled back for a forward pass in the build up. A good win for Ripon, marred by the injury’s to Jack Baldwin (broken collar bone) and Luke Ratcliff (broken finger).
