The new season started on Sunday, with the new size 5 ball and the extra 5 minutes a half.
A good squad size of 20 turned up at Acklam - a lot of familiar faces plus new signing George Shepherd (aka Pie) and Bob McKee returning after a stint off last season.
Evan Rees opened the books for the season with the first try, followed by two from Cole Potts. With a couple of conversions from Ted Wainwright the half time score was 0-19.
Some enforced changes at half time saw a reshuffle and proved good strength in depth and positional versatility.
Michael Sorby scored early in the second half, followed by Connor Stout, Dylan Hudspeth, Bob McKee and finally Ted Wainwright, who also added one more conversion for a final score of 0-46.
The home team were a good side, which makes this win more impressive. Excellent defence from all 20 players (obviously not all on the pitch at the same time), kept the opposition from getting on the score sheet.
It was rewarding for the coaching team (who can be hard to please at times) to see the boys effectively using the things that have been worked on in training.
Great start lads - Well done to everyone!
