With our usual pundit having a week off to see his son married it is left to me to do the honours and report on a match that both entertained and gave Ripon there 3rd league win of the 2016/17 campaign.
With Capt Iain Barker returning from holidays bringing the Spanish sunshine with him RIpon welcomed Barnsley with our faithful crowd at Mallorie park who supported their team well, always nice to see and hear the sidelines get behind Ripon in a positive manner something that's not always been possible in the last few weeks.
With both sides eager to play a fairly open game there were some great periods of play with Ripon being marshalled round the park by returning fly half Richard Scull who on the day contributed 15 points through a try and the rest off his boot.
Ben Buckley finished well to cap a great return to 1st team rugby with prop Mark Greenwood also playing strongly and scoring towards the end.
Barnsley scored two tries to make the final score 25-14 to Ripon.
So what was different about Ripon this week? Well the game isn't difficult to workout! If you tackle low and stop the opposition going forward then it makes it easier to stop them scoring, Ripon did this with great determination. If you go forward and look after your own ball you create opportunities to score, Ripon simply created and finished better than there previous three games. Finally Ripon showed desire to work hard for each other to get the job done.
Ripons next job is Old Grovians in the cup at Mallorie park kick off 15:00 let’s keep the Ripon faithful positive!
