Still perhaps riding on a high from last weeks cup win, Ripon 3xv entered the field full of confidence. Unfortunately that confidence was short lived, as they started the game in a very disjointed manner.
Luckily, a good bit of work between Craig Sykes and Simon Williamson, gave the latter a try which he promptly converted. Then after a few handling errors on Ripons part, Castleford capitalized and scored a try of their own which was duly converted. 7-7 .
Ripons pack was now winning the majority of the scrums which allowed the backs to get plenty of ball to work with. After a period of dominance, veteran Mark Hooley went over for Ripons 2nd try of the game. 14-7
It wouldn't be until the hour mark that Ripon scored again, with Castleford defence proving strong and also Ripon making a number of handling errors. Mark Rees now playing on the wing (Usually 1st team front row!) rolled back the years and used his blistering pace to score a well worked try in the corner. 19-7
With time then running out Castleford put on a last bid to get some more points on the board. With momentum being built by the away side a loose pass was intercepted by Simon Williamson which gave him his 2nd try of the game. Again this was duly converted by the same player.
This was another good win by Ripon, however there is still plenty to work on.
Many thanks to Castleford and all the best to their injured player.
