On 8th October 2014, Anna a close friend to all of the Champion family and many others in Ripon and latterly Teesside, tragically took her own life aged just 19.
Anna ended her life far too soon and has left a huge hole in the lives of her family and friends. Anna lived her all-too-short life to the full and made lasting memories for all who knew her. Many former students of Ripon College/Outwood Academy/Middlesbrough College will remember Anna. She was there for others; often putting their needs before her own.
Anna's Angels Cycling Crew got together about 5 months ago and determined to undertake the London to Brighton Cycle Ride in her memory. They are a mixed group of cyclists; family and friends of varying skills - one person didn't even have a bike when they signed up to do the ride! The crew is made up of: Caroline King (Anna's mum), Tom (Anna's brother), Juliette (Anna's auntie) as well as Annette, Keith and Abbie Stainthorpe, Jane Champion, Will Champion, Frann Ireland, Katy, Sophie and Clare.
Everyone came together to do the ride on 6th September 2015 in Anna's memory to raise funds for the two charities and to remember Anna for the well-loved, wonderful person she was. The 54-mile bike ride was a challenge that everyone was willing to do in honour of Anna. It was painful yet gratifying for all!
The original aim was to raise at least £1000 for each charity, which has been exceeded. However, we as a group are continuing to fund-raise as the issues surrounding Anna’s death seem to have touched so many people.
We aim to continue to increase awareness of the issues that young people face as well as the support that can be available to listen and understand and see them through the difficult times, from organisations such as Papyrus and beat.
If anyone wishes to make a donation, there is a collection tin on the bar in the Rugby Club, or commitment can also be made via:
