U13s progress in Yorkshire Cup

U13s progress in the Yorkshire Cup with an official** 40-0 win against a spirited Selby team.
The first 5 minutes were closely contested until a deep Selby kick was gathered by Nathan Fraser, who was brought down in his own 22. Quick ruck ball resulted in Hamish Mainey feeding Harry Hill who broke through the defence and ran most of the pitch to finish under the posts.
Hill's second try came from a team effort. Evan Rees made a big tackle just inside the oppositions half and quickly got back on his feet and secured the turnover with the help of the supporting forwards. The ball was moved beautifully through the back line to Harry Allen who was tackled just short of the try line but popped the ball to Harry Hill who was in close support and finished the move.
The resulting restart dropped short of the 10 meter line and Cole Potts who had an outstanding game in defence, played the advantage by fly hacking the ball up the field and chasing. He showed great speed and ball control by fly hacking the ball a further 2 or 3 times before diving on the ball to score Ripon's third.
Harry Hill secured his hat trick with yet another long distance try. Oliver Williams took the ball close to his own line and managed an elusive run before he was finally brought down. Quick ruck ball to Hill saw him race in for his third of the day.
With just minutes to go before half time Connor Stout proved Ripon's strength in depth as he came off the bench and scored with his first touch of the ball from a 50 meter sprint.
The visitors started the second half well and applied a lot of pressure. Ripon conceded a lot of penalties but a Ripon lineout 5 meters from Selby's line sealed the round one victory when Evan Rees took the lineout and broke through the defence to score.

** With the rules of the cup stating that the contest is over when a team is 40 points in front, the remainder of the match was played as a friendly.

With the fixture won, Ripon brought on their entire bench and experimented with some positional changes.
The disruption allowed a well worked try from the visitors, however the final move of the match came from Cole Potts who had moved from hooker to scrum half, producing a searching kick from within his own 22. The ball was secured by Selby and kicked back deep into the Ripon half where Oliver Williams caught the ball on the run and ran the length of the field to finish the game with Ripon's 7th try.
