U13s Win tough encounter

With a number of the usual back line missing due to half term holiday, this was always going to be a tough encounter against a well drilled opposition.
Ripon were forced to make some positional changes, moving Cole Potts from hooker to wing and Michael Sorby from flanker to centre. Also Soloman Fiengold was asked to move to an unfamiliar position for him on the wing.
Despite the disruption the team played very well together.

Straight from kick off Ripon were under pressure, pinned in their own 22 for 5 minutes before Man of the match Harry Hill broke through a number of defenders to open the scoring with a fantastic 80 meter sprint, finishing under the posts to give himself an easy conversion.

York responded quickly and brought the game back to level pegging.

The next score came form a relieving kick, deep into the York half. A good chase put pressure on the home team who put the ball into touch. Ted Wainwright won the resulting lineout and powered over for Ripon's second.

Harry Hill got his second (Ripon's third) after a great team effort. Ted Wainwright made the initial break and popped to Matthew Houseman in close support. Matthew was caught yards short of the try line and popped to Bob McKee who went over the line but was held up. The resulting scrum was won and quick ball to Hill allowed him to dive over.

Some good defence kept the York backline out, with one player being tackled in goal and going over the dead ball line and Soloman Fiengold made a try saving tackle in Ripon's 22 nullifying the overlap.
However, York hit back early in the second half, with a try down the wing.

From the kick off Ripon applied pressure and Hill managed to tackle his opposite number in goal, winning a 5 meter scrum.
Ted Wainwright picked up from the base and fended off three tacklers to score his second.

Minutes later Ripon found themselves in a similar position and Wainwright picked up again. This time he was caught but good support play ended up with Harry Hill notching another to his personal tally.

The ever threatening York side kept attacking and were rewarded with their third try.

From the restart, Ripon were awarded a penalty near the York 22. Quick thinking by Harry Hill caught the defence off guard and he scored yet again.

The final try of the game started with second row Matthew Houseman sprinting 60 meters down the wing. Quick ruck ball was well defended by York as they denied Bob McKee from reaching the line but the pressure finally resulted in skipper Hamish Mainey using his pace to dive into the corner.

A good team effort against strong opposition.
