U13s ramp it up

After a lacklustre performance last week Ripon U13s definitely ramped it up this week with a solid team performance notching up 8 tries and unlucky not to have had a few more.

Michael Sorby was first to cross the whitewash in the opening few minutes with strong running to finish a well worked try involving most of the team.

The unstoppable back row partnership of Ted Wainwright, Evan Rees and Max Bridge shared a haul of tries between them, with Ted getting a hat trick, Evan adding 2 to the tally and Max who improves with every game getting the other.
Cameron Gilchrist got the last one showing the front row is not all about the scrum.

Despite the scoreline Huddersfield played very well and were strong in defence. Max Bridge was brought down by a last ditch tackle after stealing the ball in his own 22 and rampaging 50 meters up the field. Dylan Hudspeth and Titus Baker were both denied, held up over the try line. Harvey Toomes was unlucky not to be awarded a try as he was held up on the line but showed good strength to get to ground. Unfortunately he landed on his back and it wasn't a clear grounding of the ball and Harry Allen was tackled in goal and just lost control in the grounding of the ball.

The new half back partnerships of Oliver Williams and Cole Potts, then Oliver and Ethan McMurray worked well and although the majority of tries came via the forwards the backs enjoyed a fair amount of possession. Connor Stout showed amazing pace and evaded numerous defenders with his side stepping ability. Harry Allen showed he has returned to form after a lay off through injury, with some powerful runs. Oliver Rockey and Michael Sorby were solid in defence.

The set piece went well - the front rows of Luca Lombardi, Nathan Fraser and Riley Tuley, with Bob McKee and Cameron Gilchrist kept the scrum going forward aided by utility player Ben Rutter who had a good game playing second row.

The opposition should not be under estimated - without their determination in defence there could have been a number more tries. Soloman Fiengold and speedy Cole Johns would have been under the posts a couple of times against weaker opponents.
