Solid start for Ripon U14s

With the first game of the season away at Scarborough, it was an early start for the U14s.
It was a beautiful day at Scarborough and some impressive rugby was played.
Speed merchant Connor Stout opened Ripon's account from fullback, with the first score of the game, touching down in the corner. (0-5)
A great effort at a difficult conversion from Ben Rutter fell just short though.
New signing George Spink proved to be a valuable addition, making Ripon's second try for Hamish Mainey with a good steal of the opposition ball and an offload to Hamish who out paced the defence. This time Ben slotted the conversion with ease. (0-12)
Some good handling in the backs on a nice wide pitch saw a number of runs from Bertie Black and Nathan Fraser on the wings, but the Scarborough defence stayed strong.
Evan Rees broke through just before half time though, crossing the line in the corner, then handing off a defender in the dead ball area to touch down under the posts. Converted with ease by Ben. (0-19)

The second half saw late arrivals Harry Allen and Cole Potts join the fray.
Harry Allen had obviously recovered from his travel sickness as he showed good speed, footwork and a nice hand off, to score from 50 meters out. Hamish Mainey slotted the extras. (0-26)
Evan Rees got his second with a good evasive run and Hamish ensured maximum points. (0-33)
Connor Stout also got a second with a trade mark run from him, the conversion from Hamish pushed the score to 40.
With full time approaching, Evan Rees picked up from the back of a ruck and powered over from 10 yards. Hamish added the conversion and the final score was 0-47.

The pack did well in the scrum and the backs showed good handling. Some good defensive work too, especially from Dylan.
