U14s Windy but no breeze

Visitors Yarnbury blew in and were well represented, with plenty of players and supporters.

With little shelter on the Outwood pitch the wind was expected to cause some serious damage to Connor's hair do.
Ripon won the toss and selected to play with the wind at their backs.
A clever kick early on from the Ripon 22 to 5 meters off the Yarnbury line was chased down by Titus Baker and Oliver Rockey. The Yarnbury fullback was isolated and Titus secured the ball from him and put the supporting Oliver Rockey in for an early try. (5-0)

The big Yarnbury pack were quick to strike back via their number 8 who used his size well to crash over from an attacking scrum. (5-5)

In contrast Evan Rees playing at 8 responded, using his speed to break off a scrum and race in from 40 meters. Hamish Mainey added the extras from in front of the post. (12-5)

The forwards battled well in a very evenly fought contest. Harvey Toomes and George Spink showed great determination in the loose and
Dylan Hudspeth stepped up to make the big tackles.

The backs were looking sharp though, and notched up the remainder of the tries. Cole Potts was next to score (17-5), Oliver Williams raced one in from long distance, converted by Hamish Mainey (24-5), then Titus Baker on form today left the defenders in his wake from 60 meters out. (29-5)

With the turn around at half time, the visitors now had the wind advantage and clawed back two tries (29-17).

Ben Rutter had a good game and looked close to getting in for a well deserved try but was foiled by a last defender. Connor Stout added to the tally though with some quick footwork down the touchline to go under the posts. Hamish converted (36-17).

Another couple from Yarnbury brought it to 36 - 27 before Oliver Williams closed the game out with 2 minutes on the clock beating a number of defenders to get his second. (41-27)

A good competitive game from both sides.
