U14s - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Good luck to Wharfedale - Hopefully they win the Yorkshire Cup so we can say that we lost to the winners.
Today though was about the Yorkshire Shield.

After an emotional remembrance speech by the club chairman risking serious personal injury standing on a table not built for a man of his stature, the U14s agents of SHIELD set to work.

There were a number of super hero performances to marvel at :-)
However today saw the whole squad step up and gel as a team. The fact that the wingers scored 3 of the 6 tries between them just underlines the quality of the back play to get the ball wide and give the speed merchants the opportunity to do their job.

Titus Baker on the left wing got the first try after some good handling through the back line gave him a chance to take on the Pocklington defence and show his turn of speed. (5-0)

Ted Wainwright back from injury after a month off, obviously had stored up a month's worth of energy to smash over for Ripon's second, leaving a wake of deverstation behind him. (10-0)

Ripon's 3rd came from our own George North (Evan Rees), running a great line to dive under the posts, converted by Hamish Mainey. (17-0 and half time)

The second half saw skipper for today Michael Sorby show his versatility by stepping in to prop and having a devastating run with ball in hand feeding elusive speed merchant Connor Stout, who out paced the defence for try number 4, converted by Hamish. (24-0)

Pocklington had a good period of pressure and a quick tap penalty from 5 meters out saw them crash over for a try of their own. (24-5)

Titus Baker got his 2nd and Ripon's 5th, crossing in the corner in front of the clubhouse, his mother Annie cheering him in.

Straight from the restart, Evan Rees caught the kick, stayed strong in the tackle and off loaded to Ted Wainwright who ran 70 meters to seal the game. (good to have him back!) (34-5)

Hamish and Cole Potts controlled the game well and Cole made some great tackles.
Ben Rutter had his best game of the season showing his full set of skills with strong tackling, a nice dummy at one point to break through and put the winger in space and putting his body on the line when needed.

George Spink and Harvey Toomes were all over the opposition in defence and had a couple of snipes in attack.

A good team performance.
