Similar to the previous week, the 'Kevin and Perry' stage of life seems to be upon many of the Ripon U14s.
Again a lack lustre start caught Ripon out and they quickly found themselves two tries down. (10-0)
An exciting period of rugby saw some good end to end stuff and an excellent tackle from the West Park fullback prevented what looked to be a certain try when Oliver Williams broke free. Shortly after, another try saving tackle was made on Connor Stout as he also looked to be in down the left wing.
Eventually, with Ted Wainwright putting in a super human level of work in both attack and defence, a long floating pass from Cole Potts was put over the defenders heads and Evan Rees wasn't to be stopped from 10 meters out. (10-5)
West Park kicked the restart which fell short of the 10. Evan Rees gathered, with the referee playing advantage, and immediately scored again, racing in from just inside the Ripon half. Oliver Williams added the conversion and Ripon were in front. (10-12)
This lead was short lived though as some sloppy play allowed the home side to pounce on a series of dropped balls. (17-12)
Half time.
Much like the first half West Park notched up another two unanswered tries and the result was looking grim (31-12).
There was a minor resurgence with good scrambling from George Spink and Harvey Toomes to win the ball and the back line getting it to Evan Rees, who made it a hat trick running in from 60 meters out. (31-17)
True to form West Park nullified the try with a response of their own (38-17).
A good period of pressure from Ripon towards the end with Ted Wainwright making a powerful break and putting in Evan Rees for try number four. (38-22)
An entertaining game to watch with 10 tries in total. West Park played very well and were the better team on the day.
Lots to work on in training both on and off the pitch.
