Comfortable win for U14s

A fine display today from the U14s allowed a few experiments from the coaching team.
Nathan Fraser stepped up to play scrum half and didn't look out of place despite normally playing front row.
Early on, quick ball from Nathan to Cole Potts, shipped to Harry Fern who fed Evan Rees and two hand offs and a sprint in saw the first of 12 tries. Oliver Williams kicked the extras. (7-0)
Shortly after Evan Rees scored again and the writing was on the wall for the rest of the game. A change of kicker - Cole Potts slotted the conversion (14-0).
Dylan Hudspeth, who had a great game in both attack and defence was rewarded with a well taken try, powering over the line from 10 meters out. (19-0)
Cole Potts was unlucky not to score from the kick off with a 50 meter evasive run but was brought down just shy of the line.
Dipraj Jimee was next on the score sheet with a cleverly taken quick penalty, catching the visitors off guard and diving over to score. Cole Potts added the conversion. (26-0)
Harry Fern finished the half with a powerful run, stumbling just short of the line but had the presence of mind to reach out and place the ball for try number 5. Cole Potts made it a seven pointer. (33-0)
Half time saw a few changes with usual scrum half Hamish Mainey coming on at 10 for Cole Potts and usual number 8 Ted Wainwright replacing Evan Rees in the centre.
Shortly into the half Oliver Williams out paced the defence to touch down under the posts. Another change of kicker and Ted Wainwright was on the score sheet with a conversion. (40-0)
The back line started to experiment and it was great to see some moves that the red arrows would be proud of being pulled off.
Ted Wainwright let the visitors know he had joined the game by smashing through a number of defenders to increase the lead to 45 points.
A beautiful behind the back offload from Ted gave live wire Max Fenton a chance to show his pace, taking a well worked try in the corner. (50-0)
Cole Potts returned, coming on at 9, Nathan Fraser moved to full back and Oliver Williams joined Evan Rees on the bench.
Ripon kept their continuity though and Max Fenton got his second of the game, given an inch of space to fly down the wing. (55-0)
Michael Sorby added to the visitors misery by powering through a couple of defenders and stretching out to make it 60-0.
Another change of positions saw centre Evan Rees giving prop Riley Tuley a well earned rest and full back Oliver Williams giving second row Luca Lombardi a well earned rest.
The backs continued to impress, keeping the ball alive and getting it wide, allowing winger Titus Baker to close out the game with two back to back tries, beating the defence to speed in from 30 meters for both very similar tries. (70-0)

A great display of strength in depth from Ripon, showing that we have a team of utility players that can slot in to numerous positions without causing disruption to the team.

Hard work from the likes of Ben Rutter, George Spink and Cameron Gilchrist should not be under estimated. Today was a real team effort and not one lad complained about being substituted or being asked to play in an unfamiliar position.

Parents should be very proud.

PS: Great to see injured players Oliver Rockey and Connor Stout down supporting the team. It shows a good team spirit.
