A difficult day for Ripon , who could only field 12 players this week at York. York sped to a 22 point lead by half time before Ripon got into the game. Ric Castle-Ward got Ripon off after the break with a good run ,which saw him almost to the line when stopped.
Their first try came after a good pick and go by Olly Bowett from the back of a ruck. His off-load was taken well by Jack Baldwin who ran the ball over to score. York hit back with a try, but Ripon had much more of the ball now and went close twice. Ben Borchard should have scored but could not pick up the ball by the foot of the post and knocked on. Will Langford was then pulled back for a penalty when clean through.
Ripon did get a second when James Willis scored after good recycling of the ball. Adam kicked both conversions to give Ripon 14 points. As numbers told Ripon tired late on and York scored 2 late tries to make the final score 39-14. Probably a good result given the circumstances.
