8. Training Policy

Ripon RUFC Training Policy

All Training must be mindful of and adhere to relevant guidance e.g. RFU continuum, structured season. More importantly all training plans must be player centred with all aspects being appropriate to the capacities of the participants. These capacities are Physical, Tactical, Mental, Technical and Personal / lifestyle.

The Long Term Athlete Development (LATD) Model further underpins the appropriate priorities for each training stage.

Training Schedules

U7s to U9s Sundays only 90 min in total

U10s to U12s max 90 min only (including one mid-week session)

U13 to U17s Sundays max 120 min (and 1 mid-week session 90 min max)

Mid-week sessions on a school holiday can exceed 90 minutes providing players have adequate hydration and are given appropriate rest periods.

Duration of session.

It imperative that all players and coaches get a good rest period when the season has finished. This is important to allow bodies to rest and is particularly important in younger players that are still growing. Care must be taken when planning pre-season Training with the length and content of the programme being wholly appropriate to their age group.

The club policy on pre-season is as follows.

U7s to under U12s - no pre-season training is to take place until the 1st day of club registration. U13s to U16s a -minimum of 10 weeks break after the last fixture / training.
