1. Ripon RUFC History

Ripon Rugby Club is a community club located at the heart of the historic city of Ripon. The club was founded in 1886, a mere 1200 years after the city itself.

We currently field 2 mens adult teams and a womens team on a regular basis and those teams have now been joined by the club’s development Academy (U17’s and U18’s). We also have a thriving junior section which is one of the largest in North Yorkshire and welcomes all young players from Under 7 through to Under 16.

In 2006 Ripon Rugby Club was awarded the prestigious RFU Seal Of Approval in recognition of the safe and well-structured provision of coaching and care given to our young players. We were very privileged to have Martin Johnson visit us and present the award in our own clubhouse.

We are justifiably proud of our pitches which are regularly complimented by visitors as being the finest in Yorkshire. The grounds are meticulously maintained by a group of willing volunteers, which we refer to as “The Friday Gang”.

Our off the field facilities have been developed to meet the new demands of our thriving club. We now have 3 new changing rooms (with en-suite shower facilities) providing much needed extra accommodation for match days, bringing our total changing rooms to 6.

The clubhouse has been extended with a new function room which is proving popular for local functions and social gatherings, and in 2017 was fully refurbished along with a new bar.

Ripon Rugby Club is a thriving amateur sports club at the heart of the local community. If you would like to get more information on how you can join us then please email info@riponrugby.org
